Gradebook Guide

View consolidated student scores, track progress across activities, and export data for reporting and record-keeping.

What It Shows

The Gradebook provides a consolidated view of student scores across all activities and classrooms. It's your central hub for tracking student performance and progress.

Final Scores: Each row reflects the final score for that activity, including any deductions you've enabled (e.g., missing name/ID comment).

Pass/Fail Labels: If you set a passing threshold (by count or percentage of tests), the Gradebook reflects a Pass/Fail label alongside the score where applicable.

Activity-Specific Details: For late/missing/overdue details on a specific activity, use that activity's Submissions table.

Quick Tip
The Gradebook shows the big picture. For detailed submission status (late, missing, pending), drill down into individual activity pages.

Export to Excel

Click Export to Excel to download a spreadsheet of your Gradebook data. This feature is essential for record-keeping and integration with your Learning Management System (LMS).

Export Features

  • Download as Excel-compatible spreadsheet (.xlsx)
  • Includes all student names, IDs, and activity scores
  • Reflects the same final scores you see in the Gradebook
  • Perfect for uploading to your LMS or institutional systems
  • Ideal for archival and compliance requirements
Use Cases
  • • Upload grades to Canvas, Blackboard, or Moodle
  • • Create backup records for institutional requirements
  • • Analyze trends and patterns in Excel or Google Sheets
  • • Share progress reports with department heads

How It Fits Your Workflow

The Gradebook is the final step in your teaching workflow. Here's how it all comes together:

1

Create/Publish the Activity

Use the manual creation form or AI generator to build your coding assignment. Set grading mode, thresholds, and due dates.

2

Monitor Submissions

View submissions from the activity's Submissions table. Track who has submitted, who's late, and who's missing.

3

Review & Annotate

Review individual attempts, add annotations with shapes and arrows, and use discussion threads for deeper feedback.

4

Re-grade Where Needed

Adjust scores after student revisions or when you need to change which tests are counted. Toggle test results to update grades instantly.

5

Check Gradebook

View overall progress across all classes and activities. Identify struggling students and track class performance trends.

6

Export to Excel

Download your gradebook data for reporting, archival, or uploading to your institution's LMS.

Pro Tip: The Gradebook updates in real-time as you grade and re-grade submissions. No need to manually refresh or recalculate—everything stays in sync automatically.

Tips for Clean Data

Follow these best practices to maintain accurate, consistent gradebook data that's easy to work with:

1

Keep Grading Settings Stable

Keep grading mode and threshold stable once students start submitting to avoid confusion. Changing from Per-Test to Percentage-Based mid-assignment can drastically alter scores.

2

Make Requirements Explicit

Make identification requirements (name/ID in a comment) explicit in instructions to reduce automatic deductions. Students can't comply if they don't know what's expected.

3

Use Consistent Naming

Use simple, consistent naming for activities so the Gradebook is easy to scan and export. Instead of "Assignment 1 - Arrays and Loops (Updated v2)", use "A1: Arrays and Loops".

Important
If you need to change grading settings after students have submitted, communicate the change clearly and consider re-grading all submissions to ensure fairness.

Gradebook Layout

Here's what you'll see in your Gradebook:

Student NameActivity 1Activity 2Activity 3Average
Alice Johnson
95Pass
88Pass
92Pass
91.7
Bob Smith
75Pass
55Fail
65.0
Carol Davis
100Pass
98Pass
100Pass
99.3

The "—" symbol indicates no submission. Pass/Fail labels appear when you've configured a passing threshold for that activity.
